Personal care, companionship, and homemaking
We are honored that you are considering HomeLife Personal Care for the home care of your loved one. You want the best for your family member. Someone you can trust to provide knowledgeable, friendly, and compassionate assistance. That’s us!
Many of our clients have family members who live out of state. We understand the challenges of juggling your work and family responsibilities from afar. We’re here to help.
Aging in place. When illness or an injury makes it unsafe for a family member to live completely on their own, you want to have options so they can “age in place”—stay in their home and not have to live in a facility. In addition to superb caregivers, our administrator, who is also an RN, has earned designation as a certified aging in place specialist. This means we can also do a home-safety evaluation and make recommendations about simple changes to remove hazards and prevent falls. In addition, if you are a veteran and need grab bars, stairway railings, or other safety modifications, we can help you arrange a visit to see if you are qualified for VA home care and equipment.
For spouses. If you are a spouse caring for your partner, you need time off to replenish yourself. From doctor appointments of your own, to time away from the 24/7 pressure of responsibility, bringing a caregiver into the home can give you a much-needed break so you can maintain your own health and well-being. After all, if you start to decline, what will happen to your loved one?
For vacation or respite care. Do you need some time off to leave town? Perhaps you are part of the “sandwich generation” and have vacation plans with your kids. Or you have another relative you need to visit. Or a medical procedure of your own that will have you in the hospital or rehab for a few days or weeks. Our caregivers can come in short term to make sure your loved one is well cared for so you can be gone without having to worry.
From short shifts (two-hour and three-hour) to assistance 24/7, we are there for you. We do not have stipulations for care time.

Personal care
Families usually call us in when a loved one is no longer able to take care of themself independently. Or the demands of everyday life prove too much for the strength and stamina they have available. Often it becomes too much for families to do. A husband may be too heavy for a wife to help without hurting her back. There may be dementia issues that result in the person resisting baths. Incontinence may prove awkward for families and difficult to manage (a daughter or son changing a parent’s diaper, for instance).
Personal care services at home include the following:
- Bathing
- Dressing and grooming
- Assistance with walking
- Help getting in/out of chairs, in/out of bed
- Medication reminders
- Meal preparation and feeding if needed
- Toileting and incontinence care

Companionship
While aging in place is the first choice of almost all older adults, it can get lonely. Our caregivers provide regular social contact that helps keep the spirits up and the mind engaged. We spend considerable time getting to know the client. In addition to their health issues and needs, we ask about their interests, their temperament, what they did in their younger years. Then we look to our staff to determine who among them has the training and personality to make the best match.
If your caregiver doesn’t quite seem to be a good fit, no problem. Let us know. These things happen. We will work with you to find someone who can get the job done well AND will bring joy to your loved one’s day. After all, quality of life is really about making each day the best day it can be.
Besides the social contact during caregiving tasks, our staff can also be hired for companionship to offset loneliness:
- Going out to lunch
- Going to the movies
- Attending a concert or museum opening
- Going for walks in nature
- Looking through old photo albums together
- Singing favorite songs
- Reading from the Bible or favorite books or magazines

Homemaking and errands
Our caregivers are available to help with light housekeeping such as
- dishes
- laundry
- taking out the trash
- dusting and vacuuming
- cleaning the bathroom
- watering the plants
We do not do heavy housework (for example, washing windows or mopping and waxing floors). Nor do we do yardwork (mowing lawns, weeding, pruning) or home maintenance. But we can refer you to reputable companies who work well with seniors and provide home maintenance and yard maintenance services.
Running errands. Do you need grocery shopping done? Does your relative want a ride to the doctor? To the barbers? To church? Getting out and about is good for the spirit. As much as possible, we strive to give your family member a sense of independence. We’re happy to have our caregivers provide transportation as needed. (Our caregivers are licensed and insured. We also monitor their DMV records on an ongoing basis to make sure they have been, and continue to be, safe drivers.)
Is your loved one housebound? If an outing isn’t possible, our caregivers can also go out and do shopping for you. We arrange for them to purchase the supplies you request. They will take photos of the receipts and upload them to our software program, where you can log in and review.

What makes us different?
Our company was founded by a nurse with over 45 years of experience in eldercare. Our administrative team also comprises nurses and experienced home care providers, adding up to more than eighty years between us. You benefit from our deep knowledge of the medical system and eldercare network:
- Suggestions for free additional support. We offer in-home caregivers, but we can also help you get a referral for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other free, in-home Medicare and Medicaid services you may be eligible for.
- We collaborate with the medical team. Our caregivers are trained to spot signs of an infection, a COPD flare, or increased pain. We can notify you and the doctor so measures can be put in place to prevent a full-blown crisis and a dash to the Emergency Room.
- We are a VA referral partner. Unlike registries, we have received approval by Veterans Affairs to deliver home care for those eligible for the aid and attendance Not enrolled yet? We can help you learn if you are eligible. Once you have been approved, we know how to apply for additional benefits such as durable medical equipment and physical therapy.
- Our team is managed by an RN who is a certified aging in place specialist. Our knowledgeable staff can assess your home for common hazards and make recommendations for easy fixes to prevent falls and other injuries. We can even arrange for free installation of grab bars, stairway railings, or other home modifications for eligible veterans.
- Additional training. With our nursing background, we know how important it is to have knowledgeable caregivers in the home. As a result, we make sure our staff receives extra training above and beyond what is required in the state of Florida. From strategies for dementia care, to special end-of-life training, we go the extra mile to be sure our caregivers support your loved one by using the most up-to-date methods in eldercare.
- Flexible staffing. Unlike most agencies, we offer short shifts (two-hour and three-hour blocks of time). As your needs change, we can change with you. If you end up needing four hours or more—even twenty-four-hour care—we can arrange for that as well.
- Our software. Are you caring for a loved one long distance? Our charting software allows you to keep abreast of developments. We post pictures of your loved one as they go about their day. You also have access to staff notes about meals, bathing, activities, and any issues that arose during the day and what was done.
